Syracuse University's Newhouse Complex
While on campus for Homecoming Weekend in October 2007, Stumptown Orange club member Ken Kane took these shots of his old school, the Newhouse complex. It's considerably different these days given the opening of Newhouse 3 in September 2007.
The "New" Newhouse building is considerably more student-firendly than the other two parts of the complex. It's main function is to provide conference space for student projects and to give communications students a convivial place to hang out. There's even a cafeteria in Newhouse 3 can you imagine that?!
One side of the building is sleek and makes a statement. The other side the one which faces the other two Newhouse buildings across the entry plaza is somewhat more understated.
That's not to say there aren't classrooms, offices and auditoriums in the new building, but it really has a different feel than the other two Newhouses. As you may know, it is also wrapped in the First Amendment literally. The words of the free speech provision are etched into the glass windows of Newhouse 3. Unfortunately, these photos don't capture that statement. But it also appears on a large black media wall in the atrium of the building, a photo of which appears below.
